Comcast: 10 Most Popular Love Songs

Counting Down the 10 Most Popular Love Songs of All Time!
Whether you’re planning a wedding, a romantic evening, or just a long drive with the one you love, these love songs are guaranteed to get things moving in the right direction. Romantic, check! Sexy, check! Even when they are a little sad, these songs will move you to pull that special person close and cherish the love.
10. Whitney Houston/Dolly Parton - "I Will Always Love You"
Originally written and recorded in 1973 by country artist Dolly Parton, this plain-spoken goodbye to a lover sold 12 million copies when covered by Whitney Houston in 1992. The song stayed at number 1 throughout January and February of that year.
The song proved the perfect vehicle for Houston’s soaring voice. The a capella opening, key change and sparse arrangement all provide the room for her to work around the simple melody and make it her own.
9. Frank Sinatra – "The Way You Look Tonight"
This wedding favorite has a long history. Originally recorded by Fred Astaire, it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song way back in 1936. While it has been recorded by names such as Tony Bennett, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Buble and Bing Crosby, the iconic version belongs to Frank Sinatra and was cut in January of 1964.
Compared to many Sinatra recordings The Way You Look Tonight seems pretty basic - no soaring final chorus, no quiet whispering verse. Just a tender lyrical idea that is both universal and intimate: “Some day, when I'm awfully low, when the world is cold, I will feel a glow just thinking of you...and the way you look tonight.”
8. Marvin Gaye - "Let's Get It On"
Many words have been used to describe Marvin Gaye but “subtle” is not among them. This romantic, sexual single was a big hit in 1973 and, strangely enough, was originally written with a religious theme. That didn’t suit and a quick rewrite changed the focus to political consciousness. After several attempts at recording that version Gaye and co-writer Ed Townsend decided to collaborate on a new lyric dedicated to love and sex.
Of course, it’s the combination of elements that gives "Let’s Get It On" its real power – the doo-wop backing vocals (sung by Gaye), the soulful horn arrangements, the funk rhythm guitar and Gaye’s passionate lead vocal.
7. Willie Nelson - "Always On My Mind"
They say the best part about fighting is making up, and when it comes to love songs some of the best are about asking for forgiveness. "Always On My Mind" has been recorded over 300 times since it was published in 1972. Elvis Presley had a gold record with it. The Pet Shop Boys had a number one UK single in the late ‘80s. But country artist Willie Nelson recorded the wildly popular version in 1982. It won the Grammy for Song of The Year and was #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart.
As with so many powerful love songs the key is the simplicity of the lyric – a man recounting all the ways he has failed as a partner and begging for another chance. The kind of sentiment that every man has felt at various times for the woman he loves. Nelson’s approach is almost to speak the lines, adding to the heartfelt nature of the words. Simple and beautiful.
6. The Beatles – "Something"
Leave it to the “Quiet Beatle” to pen their best love song. George Harrison’s "Something" appeared on Abbey Road in 1969 and was his highest charting Beatles composition. For years it was assumed that Harrison wrote the song for his wife Pattie Boyd. The truth turned out to be far different, “I was thinking of Ray Charles,” he would say. Interesting.
At a time when most Beatles songs were dealing with cryptic lyrics and expanding world views, Something would stand out as a straightforward, sentimental love song. “Something in the way she moves, attracts me like no other lover. Something in the way she woos me. I don’t want to leave her now, You know I believe her now.”
5. Beyonce featuring Jay-Z – "Crazy In Love"
Who says a love song has to be sleepy? This #1 hit from Beyonce Knowles’ 2003 debut solo album features a sample from The Chi-Lites' "Are You My Woman" and an insanely catchy chorus. Supposedly written in about two hours, "Crazy in Love" garnered six Grammy nominations and won Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
Jay-Z was a last minute addition, recording his rap verse in the middle of the night and writing the lines as he went.
4. Sinead O'Connor - "Nothing Compares 2 U"
Sometimes all it takes is one song and the world knows your name. Ask obscure Irish singer Sinead O’Connor. She rode this Prince penned hit about loss and obsession to world-wide fame in 1989. Prince wrote the song for his backing band, The Family. They recorded it, but it wasn’t released as a single. The O’Connor version with its groundbreaking video won awards and racked up #1 chart positions in most of the western world.
Taken as a piece of songwriting the song is an achievement, but O’Connor’s passionate, bitter delivery makes the record a timeless classic.
3. Eric Clapton – "Wonderful Tonight"
A touching love song about your best friend’s wife? By the time "Wonderful Tonight" came out in 1977 Eric Clapton had already won George Harrison’s wife Pattie (although they wouldn’t marry until 1979). Like so many effective love songs, the genius of "Wonderful Tonight" lies in its simplicity - a man watching his wife get ready for a night on the town. Clapton’s low-key vocal performance makes it the perfect “every man” anthem, and a very popular wedding song.
Stylistically, it is equal parts country and rootsy pop making it accessible to many different listeners.
2. Etta James – "At Last"
Has there ever been a song that expresses so much…relief? James’ cover of this classic has been used in films, ads, TV shows, weddings, wedding receptions, even Barack Obama’s 2009 Neighborhood Inauguration Ball. (Where it was sung by Beyonce Knowles, much to dismay of James who later remarked, “that woman…singing my song, she gonna get whupped.”)
“At last, my love has come along. My lonely days are over, and life is like a song.”
1. Barry White – "You're My First, My Last, My Everything"
If you’re putting together a list of love songs, and you don’t include something from The Sultan of Smooth Soul, Barry White, you’re not trying very hard. This writer/singer/producer started out with modest hits for the bubble gum act The Banana Splits. But by the early ‘70s he had hit chart success with a string of R&B classics. "You’re My First, My Last, My Everything" was originally written as a country song and it lay unrecorded for 21 years. White picked up the song, rewrote the lyrics and added a disco back-beat. It was an instant hit reaching the top of the singles chart, soul chart and dance chart. However, the song didn’t stop there. It’s been an evergreen with appearances in feature films and most famously a reoccurring role in the TV show "Alley McBeal."
This is a song of complete joy, love, and adulation: “You’re my sun, my moon, my guiding star. My kind of wonderful, that’s what you are.”

I think I Will Always Love You Should be Higher that's just by opinion, & Bey's Halo should have been there instead of Crazy In Love

Halo is really nothing special though, especially compared to Crazy In Love, which remains her best song.
