GoFundMe has clarified their terms of service and has said the donations can't be for something that was deemed breaking the law.
An Oregon bakery was fined for not serving a gay wedding and they started a campaign recently, but when it was shut down they questioned why.
GoFundMe's statement:
Quote:
"After careful review by our team, we have found the "Support Sweet Cakes By Melissa" campaign to be in violation of our Terms and Conditions. The money raised thus far will still be made available for withdrawal. While a different campaign was recently permitted for a pizzeria in Indiana, no laws were violated and the campaign remained live. However, the subjects of the "Support Sweet Cakes By Melissa" campaign have been formally charged by local authorities and found to be in violation of Oregon state law concerning discriminatory acts. Accordingly, the campaign has been disabled."

So now in the 20-something states with anti-discrimination laws, the site cannot be used for funds if a company breaks that state law.
Sweet Cakes didn't make it to their goal $135,000 but will get to keep the $100,000 raised before the site cancelled the fundraiser. The court case is still pending by the way.
