Lady Gaga's icon status is being reaffirmed by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The 29-year-old pop superstar will receive the inaugural Contemporary Icon Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 19.
The award is to honor a performing songwriter "who has attained an iconic status in pop culture," according to a Thursday statement from the hall. Gaga has had a hand writing most of her hits, including "Poker Face," ''Applause" and "Just Dance," although her latest album, "Cheek to Cheek" with Tony Bennett, is all covers.
Following a stunning performance of her song "Diamonds," Rihanna accepted the first-ever Icon Award at the American Music Awards tonight. It was presented to her by her mother, Monica Braithwaite, following a video commemoration from Jay Z and a video montage showing her career highlights. "I know the journey and your career has not always been an easy one," Braithwaite said. "But tonight I applaud and admire you for being so strong and so positive and so humble and so focused. . . I'm so blessed to be part of this historic moment."
Lady Gaga definitely. She was pushing boundaries the second she debuted, 2 years after her debut even sweeping the VMAs and wearing the iconic meat dress.
GaGa. Most people know Rihanna's hit songs. But they know GaGa much better as a celebrity. Even Bad Romance is more iconic than any Rihanna's song. Rih has more hits but that's it.
I mean Rihanna hasn't been mentioned once in show like The Simpsons, so Gaga
Why is this a measure of how much of an icon you are? Katy was on The Simpsons too but for some reason I get the feeling you wouldn't consider her an icon for it
