Any tips on how to get published?

Discuss your thoughts on book writing: the genre you wish to write about, fiction/nonfiction.

I'm writing one now, it's actually a self-help memoir dealing with anxiety.
It's a comedy memoir though.

I am not very creative.

I would love to write sci-fi or dystopian. But, it's just difficult but I will get there someday.

I tried to a few times but I don't have the patience, inspiration or motivation

Ever since I learned how to write, I wanted to be an author.

I used to try writing all sorts of fanfictions (Potter, Pokemon stand out in my mind), and tried coming up with spinoff-type things (Potter, Percy Jackson)...

Could never come up with an original idea worth writing, and even with the fan fictions I lacked the conviction to follow through and finish.


Then I switched to writing songs, which is a lot easier for me. Too bad none will ever hear anything I've written.

I wanted to write a fantasy book, sadly it takes too long and well i dont really have a lot of time.
I think a good tip is to have both the beginning and the ending defined before you start writing.

Yes, I write and Yes, my work has been published numerous times.

But I have not written a book.

Sometimes I feel very inspired, but I doubt I'll ever write a book.

The biggest tip for writing is reading. Read, read, read. And then when you've read a thousand books, read a thousand more.

It helps expand your vocabulary and develops your syntax/semantics skills. Just read, a lot, and then the words will come.

I tried. I have several short stories actually, but... they're nothing special.

I want to, but I get bored with all the ideas I come up with before I even start writing. Also, my lack of confidence in my writing holds me back. I read a paragraph I've written and I hate it and then I don't write again for months.

I'm a published poet, but I'm very critical of my own work. I would love to write books and/or screenplays, but when I write something, I go back to it after a day and hate it.
