How you feel about "next Madge, Mariah, Janet" comparisons?
When someone is called the "next" or "new" Whitney, Mariah, Janet, Michael, Prince, etc. how do you feel?
It seems like the younger generation really rushes to try to crown someone the next or new which I don't really understand. You don't want artist to stand on their own. It feels like constant comparisons are just setting the younger generation up for failure. I remember some MJ and James Brown comparisons but for the most part nobody did that to the legends. I mean they were compared to their peers (Michael vs Prince, Whitney vs Mariah, Janet vs Madonna, etc) but it was rarely about someone being the next or new someone.
We've read Gaga is the new Madonna, Ciara or Tinashe is the new Janet, Ariana is the new Mariah, Jennifer Hudson is the new Whitney, Justin Timberlake and Bruno are the new Michael Jackson, Miguel is the new Prince.....why?
I know the artists themselves aren't receptive to it at all (Mariah, Prince, etc. don't want to hear that).
For fans of the already established legends and the young pop stars, how do you feel about it and why?
