DreamWorks Animation’s*Home*held up terrifically on its second weekend, dropping just 28% for a $11.3 million second Friday and a new $79.5m eight-day cume. That’s a better Friday hold than*Mr. Peabody and Sherman*(-32%) and from much bigger numbers and it’s a much better hold than the 47% Friday-to-Friday drop for*Monsters vs. Aliens*back in 2009. But for what it’s worth,*The Croods*and*How to Train Your Dragon*dropped 8% on their respective second Fridays, which only means that the Rihanna/Jim Parsons/Jennifer Lopez animated feature isn’t going to pull a*How to Train Your Dragon*type multiplier, which I’m sure we all knew. We should expect a $27m second weekend (-46%) thanks to Easter Sunday which should give the $132m toon a $96m ten-day total, bigger than any of the other DreamWorks animated March releases save*Monsters vs. Aliens. It’s still a big hit for a company that really needed one.
