As part of the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenland is affected by some Danish laws, others it adopts. When Denmark became the first to create civil unions in 1989, Greenland brought the law to the island in 1996.
Now the Government introduced a bill last year to bring in a gay marriage/full adoption law. They were supposed to vote last autumn, but their PM was forced to resign after a scandal and the country had snap election at the end of the year.
The first reading of the bill was March 25 and the second reading today approved it on a vote of 27-0 with 2 absences. If nothing gets in the way the law will come into effect on October 1.
