It's becoming clear that streaming certifications are going to become way more significant for music in future years. However, streaming #s must be judged on a different scale than sales.

What # of streams on Spotify will constitute gold? Platinum? Diamond?

Should VEVO & Spotify be an aggregate amount, like Billboard calculates w/ in the Hot 100, or should their certs be separate/individual?

I think sales and streaming certs should be completely separate. I hate seeing songs certified 9x platinum wen they only sold 6 million or whatever

They should ban streaming. The charts should be based on only pure sales of albums/singles, they should exlude radio, too

They should be completely separate. Call me old fashioned but I will never wrap my head around how any number of streams is equivalent to an actual purchase of a song. And now, we have no idea how much a song has sold anymore because almost every country (especially ones where sales have taken the biggest nosedives) includes streaming in their certifications now and have even inflated their certification levels, so now so many songs that are certified probably haven't even sold half of what the certification amount actually is. It's extremely misleading and now we truly have no sources that will help us to figure out the true sales of these songs, tragic.
