When I only had an Xbox, I never cared much about achievements. Now, with a PS, I'm so fixated on getting trophies and Platinums.
What is it about trophies that makes them so addicting, and not achievements? Is it the emphasis put on theme by the PS fan culture? Is it the annoyance at not seeing 100% in your trophy collection?
Both are useless trash that mean nothing tbh. Distracts from enjoy the games.
I actually think it's quite the opposite. I enjoy the gaming experience more because it gives me goals to work for so I'm not just mindlessly playing just to play
For example there's a game called Evolve and one of the hardest achievements in the game is to defeat the monster without taking any damage. It gets me thinking and strategizing in ways I'd never do without achievements

Maybe that's just me?
No, I agree with you.
I feel that it gives the game more replay value, as well. It can also add new dimensions to games, like Uncharted, that encourage you to explore in places you might have otherwise zoomed past.
If I were to say, get 5 #1's from one album and be in the top 10 for 69 consecutive weeks, I think that would be more impressive and speak more to an artist's connectedness with the music buying public than, say, winning 7 gold trophies. Completely hypothetical situation of course
