In the 2011 Census, 59.3% of the usual resident population identified as Christian. A quarter of the population (14.1 million people) reported they had no religion.



Between 2001 and 2011 there was a decrease in the proportion of people who identify as Christian (from 71.7% to 59.3%) and an increase in those reporting no religion (from 14.8% to 25.1%). There were increases in the other main religious group categories, with the number of Muslims increasing the most (from 3.0% to 4.8%).

With numbers of churchgoers being reported to have halved in the past 50 years and the facts above showing the decline in religious beliefs, it can be asked why the people of the UK are moving further and further away from religion?

That was 4 years ago, with the rate that it was declining I would expect that number to be far lower by now. I suspect the 2014 study to be more accurate.
