Two men are facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly shooting a horse. The incident happened in the Rio Verde area earlier this month.
A probable cause statement says that on March 11, a veterinarian was called out to treat a horse that had been shot four times with two different guns. The vet told investigators he thought the person who shot the horse likely used a shotgun and a large caliber handgun.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says the suspects are local area residents. They are suspected of involvement in other crimes including burglary, and trafficking in stolen property.
The Sheriff's Office identified the horse killing suspects as Dylan K. Gundry,19, and Bryce Fleming, 22.
Both are facing numerous felony counts. Sheriff Joe Arpaio says the crimes started with burglaries and stolen property and escalated with the shooting of a horse.
Gundry is set to appear in Maricopa County Superior Court on March 19 for a status hearing.
