South Africa’s prison authorities have condemned the leak of a video showing Oscar Pistorius, the jailed Paralympian athlete, playing football with a fellow inmate.
The department of correctional services denied claims that the video, filmed on a mobile phone, shows Pistorius, 28, is receiving preferential treatment at the maximum security Kgosi Mapuru II prison in Pretoria.
In it, the Blade Runner as he was once known for the carbon fibre prosthetics he competed around the world on, wears civilian sports clothes and takes turns to practise penalty shoot-outs in an empty exercise yard.
He appears light-hearted and laughter can be heard during the two-minute clip. His opponent is Radovan Krejcir, one of the country’s most notorious underworld figures who is currently on trial for the kidnap and attempted murder of the brother of an alleged drug dealer, as well as dealing in drugs himself.
