Vienna is the best city in the world for quality of life
It may be facing economic problems but the European continent can take heart from the fact that seven out of the top 10 cities for quality of life are within its borders.
According to a new report, Vienna offers its residents the best quality of life in the world while Zurich comes second. Three out of four German cities (Munich, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt) also feature in the top 10.
Mercer, a consulting firm, published its annual Quality of Living Index and European cities dominate, although London is ranked 40 out of 230 countries.
According to Kate Fitzpatrick, European cities scored very highly because they were "very consistent, secure and are high quality locations".
The senior consultant said: "European cities have good hospitals, schools. They are secure and they have good transport links - all the stuff that is important for business."
Ms Fitzpatrick praised "clean" Vienna and said it scored highly across all the categories. Every year,
Mercer experts produce the index by looking at living conditions in more than 440 cities across the world.
