A lot of Ariana stans seem to believe that the features on her top 10 hits seem to benefit by association to her rather than vice versa. But is this really true?

Jessie J has a solo top ten hit.

Nicki Minaj has 3 solo top ten hits.

The Weeknd has a solo top ten hit.

Iggy Azalea has two top tens as a lead.

It seems as though Ariana's features are doing fine without her... 3 of them has what she doesn't: a solo top ten.

I don't think they needed her (Jessie maybe could've done it on her own; maybe not). I don't think she needs them either. If she releases a solo song (not featuring the DJ or whatever) as the first single off album 3, she will most likely have a top 10 solo hit.

Ariana is bigger than her features, excluding Nicki.

"Problem" was a hit because of its catchy "hoo-hoo-hoo" hook, the sax breakdown, and Big Sean's whispering (which most people don't even know is by him).

"Break Free" was clearly a hit because of Ariana and not Zedd. I don't even think most people know who Zedd is.

"Bang Bang" was very dependent on Ariana's contribution, as evidenced by the fact that most people think it's an Ariana Grande song and the fact that it led to Jessie J being nominated for "Best New Artist" at the Kids' Choice Awards... despite being around since 2010. Think about it, if the song was just by Jessie and Nicki, would it have been a hit? Would it have immediately rocketed to #1 on iTunes? Probably not.

And as for "Love Me Harder"... The Weeknd never even cracked the top 40 before that song, and Ariana sings the vast majority of the song (even though it's billed as a duet).

It wouldn't have rocketed to #1 on iTunes either if it was just Ariana and Jessie.

Ariana and Nicki (who had a Solo #1 on iTunes one week after Bang Bang's release) initially gave the song attention and Jessie gave it that big Pop girl collab status and made it a catchy song.

Also, nobody considers it an Ariana song. They either consider it an Ariana/Jessie/Nicki song or a Jessie J song featuring Ariana and Nicki.
