My heart was heavy today. For ever let this place be a cry of despair and a warning to humanity, where the Nazi murdered about one and a half million men, women and children mainly Jews from various countries of Europe. Auschwitz - Birkenau 1940-1945 "The one that does not remember history is bound to live through it again" George Santayana
It would be a very humbling and special experience to visit there, but I think I would find it too hard and distressing.
I had friends who went on a field trip in high school, and they said that it was a very eerie and heavy place.
It's such a harrowing place and experience- and even then, surely it is nothing like it was back then to all those poor souls that lost their lives unfairly in the most inhumane ways.
It's great that she shares her experience and thoughts. I am german and that horrible part of our history may never be forgotten. It's good to see Katy doing her part in keeping the memory and awareness up!
edit: that part of history obviously should never be forgotten!
It must be such an emotional place to visit. It's chilling thinking about how many tragic deaths of innocent people took place under one roof. Horrible.
