So earlier today I was listening to two of my favorite French artists: Mylene Farmer and Najoua Belyzel.
Mylene Farmer has one of the most successful French discographies EVER. She is I believe the highest selling Female French artist (only behind Celine Dion who is Quebecois not French from France). She is known for her political, artistic, feminist, dark and bloody music videos with extremely intelligent lyrics and powerful stunning music videos! (plz youtube her work it is AMAZING!) she was the first female artist do to a music video completely naked btw lol
Then in 2005 a very beautiful, young and unique female artist emerged with a MONSTER hit called "Gabriel" (this is my name btw so I found this song quickly haha) This song spoke about angels and homosexuality. The music video was shot in a church that Mylene Farmer shot her very own music video in which started drama about copying. This resulted in many jabs between both ladies. (Mylene less so because she is mysterious and hardly ever does promo)
both ladies continued to be successful (well Mylene especially Najoua was successful in singles but her second album did not do so well yet it was still as criticly acclaimed as Mylene's)
The issues escalated to the point that Najoua wrote a song called "M" to burry the hatchet which speaks of how it sucks to be compared and how Najoua respects Mylene but does not want to be compared anymore.
Very interesting isnt it? Also it is noted that Mylene is often called the French Madonna.
