Why did Teenage Dream get mixred reviews but successful?
I was on the wikipedia page for Teenage Dream and it said the album got mixed to positive reviews and I was shocked honestly thought it had very positive reviews considering how successful the era was
Some tracks such as Teenage Dream was so good but honestly 80% of the tracks in that album were bad mte. The fact the albums sold well because most of the singles smashed. If the singles underperform or flop, Teenage Dream will end up tragically
Teenage Dream didn't get great reviews because when you get into it its not a great pop album from certain perspectives. What it is though, is an accessible pop record that was easily marketable and easily digested. It has some catchy hooks, a guilty pleasure to some/most, but its not like it was actually a flawless album. You'd have to be daft to think airplay means critical adoration. Even most of its hit singles aren't technically that great. Katys success majorly, imo, relies on the fact that shes shoved down everyones throats and shes too inoffensive for anyone to bother fighting it.
Because it was super generic. That's not a bad thing IMO and it's my 2nd favorite album, but critics picked it apart for that. Plus, it came from an artist with prior poor reviews. I'm sure if other artists had released it, it would ba a bit higher. It deserved more.
