Perhaps Kanye West is looking for similar redemption: Filled with bile and self-loathing, his 2013 album, Yeezus, was dissonant and difficult. West kept quiet musically until New Year's Eve, when he released "Only One." Also assisting West on the track? Another elder, Paul McCartney.

West has not been shy to boast that he's perched on art's vanguard. Such declarations help turn him (and, similarly, Gaga) into prickly personalities, anathema to the humility-demanding American public.

Working with Tony Bennett hasn't really done anything for Lady Gaga's career (or Tony Bennett's career, according to the article.) And her performance at The Grammys received lukewarm reviews at best. A pop star "in her prime" doing a jazz album, isn't exactly a shining point.

For over half of her career, people have been saying Gaga's over, and she JUST got a Grammy-winning, #1, Gold-certified album (when pop albums sold less than that). I think she's doing fantastic.

Just like how they claim she sold Cheek to Cheek when that's not even her base.
