You don't get it

. It's called NBC News, not NBC fiction or the NBC entertainment division. You can't bifurcate serious news journalism from facts and truth. NBC news is a brand that's heavily invested in credibility. Brian Williams is the face of that brand. Maybe this might blow over. Who knows, but by keeping him around, the brand's credibility comes into question. He's also a managing editor of the Nightly News and does his own investigative pieces. So, he does more than just read a Teleprompter, which is why many of his prior stories are being investigated, not just this Iraq piece.
This isn't just some garden variety lie. He's been telling this story about how he Almost got shot down in Iraq for over a decade to anyone who would listen, sitting up on Letterman cheesin' and telling the story. Brian Williams is either really arrogant or just delusional. Either way, he's past due for a time out.
