Smith is tired of being tagged the "male Adele."
Smith calls Adele "my Michael Jackson" – he's been a fan since he was 16 – but says, "We're very different, and I feel like the constant comparisons might piss her off." He adds, "It just annoys me that people can't digest two pop stars singing really personal songs who don't look like normal pop stars."

So then why are they selling so well, which is where some of the comparison comes from in the first place? They're both from the UK and they both make music that you don't usually hear on top 40 radio much these days. He can be so....
Being labelled "the male Adele" would make it seem like he has absolutely no originality or artistic integrity and just copied someone who had a successful formula to a fair amount of success...or at least that's how I would take it if someone were to label me the "male Adele" or whoever else. It could be frustrating not being seen as your own artist, but a different version of someone else, so I can see where he's coming from.
But again, I see people just want a reason to not like him so whatever. Keep on keeping on.
