Ever since I began my Tropes vs Women in Video Games project, two and a half years ago, I’ve been harassed on a daily basis by irate gamers angry at my critiques of sexism in video games. It can sometimes be difficult to effectively communicate just how bad this sustained intimidation campaign really is. So I’ve taken the liberty of collecting a week’s worth of hateful messages sent to me on Twitter. The following tweets were directed at my @femfreq account between 1/20/15 and 1/26/15. Content warning for misogyny, gendered insults, victim blaming, incitement to suicide, sexual violence, rape and death threats.
I may not agree with everything she says, but I feel that Anita is a person who does have good intentions and it breaks me to see all the abuse she gets daily.
OT: How many of those people in those tweets do you think cry about misandry and call themselves meninists?
Yall should STOP. She was exposed *numerous* time, and people like her are why 'feminist' is getting a negative side.
Basically, she was nagging how in Hitman women are objectified and misrepresented or something, because the game encourages you to kill strippers. Now here's the catch. Those strippers appear in one segment of one mission in the whole game, and what you need to do is basically pass right by them, not to be detected, this is portrayed in ALL walkthorughs.
So she went and played the game, killed the dragged them around, whatever, only to have footage to show how this game advises you to treat women like that. Even tho, your score actually decreases when you do that, and it's basically exactly opposite of what this game is about. Hell, the main story-line is about saving a girl.
And here's another thing, if you replace 'men' with 'jews' in her tweets, you get something like it isstraight out of Mein Kampf:
And men have always tried to bring feminism down. Literally since the first document of anything resembling feminism men (and some women) have whipped out every slur they could think of (bitch, lesbian, ugly, etc.) Feminism has never been just cheering girl power and everyone agreeing. Even you resorting to saying she's nagging is a classic go to.
But oh no, she's been "exposed" so everyone should go spew hate speech at her. You don't need to change words in any of those tweets to get something disgusting.
Continuing to play victim isn't going to give her any more credibility, but then there is nothing else she can do because she has no factual basis and simply lies for attention and money.
No, the game was not designed for killing strippers, the game was the designed as a stealth game where the ideal gameplay is you killing your target, without a single bullet if possible. Just because you can kill strippers, or bartenders, or cleaners, doesn't mean you have to, not to mention that you're allegedly encouraged to do so. Then The Sims could get criticized for making you setting kids on fire, just because you can.
No, those tweets not okay, but 90% percent of them are 13yo tweens whose life accomplishments are telling someone they ****ed someone's mother over Xbox. But she, unlike them, is actually making harm and screwing people over.
She said she needed 5000$ for making Tropes vs Women in Video Games videos. She raised over 150000$ on kickstarter Nine months after that, she failed to reproduce any video, while cutting communication with anyone who gave the donation and askigng where she is or what is the progress. Some guy eventually started doing them, without any money, for free, with actal discussions, and possible solutions.
If you still didn't figure it out, she took the money and ran for her life.
And if someone is nagging, I'll tell that they are nagging, no matter the sex, race or whatever. Just because she's a woman and I'm a man, I cannot say 'nagging' without it meaning that i want to 'bring feminism down'?
If you want to support a person like that, after all of what she's done, go ahead and be my guest. It says more about you, than about her, tbh.
You keep jumping to absurd conclusions that have little to no relation to what I'm actually saying. I was just typing a longer response but why bother you keep reaching bringing the most random information in.
This thread is about the tweets she's getting. The only thing to say here is that they are awful. Not that she's playing a victim, a Hitman video game that was never mentioned in this thread until your comment, or that she raised money using kickstarter. If you think she's the one harming people believe that.

except the bitch is getting attention from the media and Naughty Dog, EA, Bungie are being influenced by her series y'all can't escape her now. Bye and dead at talking about gaming when the apparent misogyny is widespread while you're talking about credibility when a simple google heck looking at twitch videos involving female gamers and looking at their comments will often get you nasty posts. The nerve of y'all telling she had no receipts when it's you who spout baseless receipts.

I don't care about gamer gate. All I'm saying is for someone who thinks she has something important to say, ALL she ever does is bring up trolls. It kinda seems like she's more interested in attention than "exposing" the gaming industry or whatever.
The word changing is there to make a comparison of what she is preaching. Sad thing is it had to be made for people to see what she's really saying, even sadder is that most are still not getting it.
You're free to support the idea of women being better represented in videogames. I'll be the first one who'll say something if they're treated wrongly. But how can one support this lying, full-of-**** person is really not just beyond me, but beyond every logical thinking. And it's really frightening that when people try to react to this manipulating of the facts under the cover of feminism, they get called 'pathetic, desperate, obsessed and hilarious.'.

What's sadder is some people think jews are a race. I mean even a 3rd grade knows jews ain't a race and here you are talking about logical thinking when your receipts were probably taken from a reddit postpost.
And no sis. No man,woman, gay or bi or transgender deserves the hate she's getting over some archaic ideas in a videogame industry. Y'all the ones who can't move on.
A game like GTA will survive the day women or gay are now main playable characters in that series. That's what she's fighting for. What are you even fighting for?
And before anyone says anything, no, this does not mean I approve of her getting death threats. I think the people who tweeted her that garbage in the OP are assholes.
It's just a sad state of affairs that there are so many people on the internet who say such terrible things. She shouldn't have to deal with these threats and attacks, I wish people could at least try to act civilized and have a real conversation about the issues she brings up.
