Well I don't usually make this kind of threads, but I am currently working on an essay which is about the impact of religion in our society and I need to collect diverse opinions about the subject.
So what are your thoughts about religion? Do you think it has affected our society in a bad way or good way?
Would the world be better with or without religion?

I'm not saying what we believe in is fake, I believe in God, but I think all the religions were designed in the past to control and manipulate society.

So it has done good because it keeps balance, and bad cause they manipulate the weak ones.

I already have my arguments and my point of view is basically neutral but i need some opinions from different people as well.

Throughout history, good. (well both, but probably more good for our progression). In 2015, the net negative outweighs the positive, so bad.

The fear of burning in hell has kept people from committing atrocious acts but then you have people brainwash and kill in the name of their God.

No other organization has killed more than the Catholic church, not to mention all the tortures over 2k years.

All society through history has been controlled by religion, is the only way man can cope without having any existential issues in their mind. Even in the primitive times. Religion is fine, but once it gets managed by the powerful is used to manipulate the weak. And that's why our society has so many stigmas and lack of freedom.
