Sam Smith splits from bf; announces break-up during concert
'You live and learn!' Sam Smith shares a sad selfie after hinting during concert that he and boyfriend Jonathan Zeizel have split
They only just went public with their romance but Sam Smith and his new love Jonathan Zeizel have reportedly already split. Sam, 22, hinted at the break-up during a concert in Toronto on Tuesday night before he performed Like I Can and said: 'This is about a very similar thing I had to do today with someone I've been seeing.'
The lyrics of Like I Can include, 'He'll never love you like I can,' and the pair actually met on the video for the song.
Sam also hinted at the split on Instagram, sharing a sad picture and writing: 'Sometimes you just need to lay in bed with a glass of red wine and a football T shirt and listen to Joni Mitchell. It's been a sad day. Beautiful show, but sad day x.'
And Sam tweeted some words of support from his pal Jessie Ware when he wrote: 'You live and you learn. Wise words from @JessieWare tonight x.' MailOnline has contacted Sam's representatives for comment. However, he may not be upset for too long as Sam previously revealed he wanted a boyfriend, 'so he can break up with me and I can write a new album.'
This comes soon after Sam and Jonathan enjoyed a romantic break together in Australia, less than a month after they started dating. And it seemed serious as both eagerly shared pictures of each other documenting their relationship. While Sam admitted in December that the relationship was quite new and he wasn't exactly sure if they were even exclusive, things changed and they both seemed to be smitten. He explained: 'It's very early days. I'm talking very, very, very early days. But he's really sweet... he was one of 20 extras.'
He told The Sun 's Dan Wootton: 'It's a surreal thing to be talking about because I haven't even confirmed with him that we're officially seeing each other.'
The crooner released his chart-topping album - which follows the theme of unrequited love - last year, and said he didn't think he'd ever release a positive album because he doesn't expect the relationship to last. He continued: 'But people need to realise I'm never going to be happy. The reason I do what I do is because I'm an artist who is always going to be blue about something.' But Sam - who had never dated before meeting his Jonathan - revealed he was convinced the pairing would end in misery.
This article is making it sound like doomed it from the start with his defeatist attitude; but whatever, I'm sure everyone who was thirsting over his boyfriend is happy now! And now they don't have to wrap their thirst for him in "concerns" about the relationship only existing because Sam's got dollars.
Can someone pull up all the threads where everybody that saw this coming was called mean and skeptical? The boyfriend obviously cheated and used him. Seen coming from miles away.
How much it lasted? 2 weeks?
It was OBVIOUS from the beginning the guy was with Sam just for the $ and Sam was with him just for the D.
She should be this dramatic about gay rights too.
