Now that Vulnicura, gospel of our times, has leaked 4 days after it's announcement, with no cover or official release date, let's reflect. Do you think leaks matter? Do you listen to them? Do they anger you?
I hate leaks. Two of my favorite artists (Marilyn Manson and now Bjork) have had their albums leaked months before their release date, and I refuse to listen to them until I purchase them on iTunes.
Honestly it's just the nature of the beast that is the internet.
I think instead of the industry hating them they need to be accepted as the norm now and artists should begin to use them to their advantage, like Madonna did. And push the boundary even further. I remember when Gaga had lunch with Julian Assange in 2012 I thought she was going to use the viral nature of the internet and leaks as part of the ARTPOP era and a new age of album promotion but she didn't.
The industry integrated streaming and turned it into something positive. Now it's time for envelope pushing artists like Kanye, Madonna, Gaga, Bjork, etc to do something creative with them and make them work in their favour.

Marilyn's album leaked?
I'm surprised at how early so many big albums have leaked recently. I thought they had been getting less common.
No one really reacted, they just put it up for streaming a week or two early (which I haven't even listened to because the experience of listening to an album for me comes from either purchasing it on iTunes or a CD from a store)
I get that it hurt the artist, but leaks like Bjork's and Madonna's are their own fault, because there's not enough security for the files.
And at this day and time, small leaks are good to test the waters.

I like them because they make me even more excited for the album if I'm checking for them.
For me they just feel like... oh. It's here.

Well, we don't know that. Maybe it was an inside job.
it's definitely bad when it leaks THAT early, but i dont understand why fans get so butthurt when an album leaks 1-2 weeks early...at that point it most likely wont have a big effect on sales
