I have to write a research paper on a controversial topic that is interesting to me yet informative. I want to research the music industry (primarily pop music) and see if over-sexualization in singles affects album sales and is it impressionable on young people? My goal is to explain that the most popular songs today (Blurred Lines/Anaconda/S&M/Talk Dirty/E.T. etc..) are ridden with sexual references. I am supposed to have skeptics (i.e. record labels, producers, artists) and attempt to change their mind. I hope to interview some people with knowledge on the subject (music editors, record label employees, etc.)

Anyways, I'm asking for your thoughts... do you think its an interesting topic? Will it have legs?

The paper needs to be 8 pages. Also, if you guys have any ideas about where to find valid sources on this subject it would help a ton! I am not 100% set on doing this exact topic but I know that the paper is going to be about the music industry and controversies within it.

I remember last semester I wanted to write a paper on pop music too for this English class but my professor said pop music is so broad and there are so many exceptions to the rule that it's really hard to observe definite patterns. Nowadays for every Nicki Minaj there is a Lorde--sex sells but so does talent and creativity. However the topic is so interesting you shouldn't give up!

what did you end up writing your paper on?

I ended up writing about how the presence of gay people in TV shows and movies has helped people accept LGBT people more through the years. I wrote about Billy Crystal, Ellen Degeneres, Brokeback Mountain, Glee, Will and Grace......it was a very interesting topic. It was actually last year not last semester, time flies
