EUT: How was supporting Beyonce on tour?
Wow, the experience of a life time, I was very nervous going on tour knowing that Beyonce fans do not tolerate any mediocrity when you see her live it’s like the closest thing of perfection so there was a lot of pressure. When they get something less than that they’re like who’s this wannabe Beyonce girl, we don’t want her.
But it was the complete opposite her fans were completely supportive of me, Beyonce’s people said they’d never had someone fill this many seats so early, which meant people were there to see me which was a great feeling.
EUT: Who would you like to work with?
The queen! Call your girl up, you know how to reach me! I really love Alicia keys, thats one of my dreams. I had dreams of working with Michael Jackson but now that’s never going to happen what a tragedy, it saddens me.
Getting to work with Akon again would be really cool, or to have a Rihanna/Shontelle track 2 bastion girls. There are some cool UK acts like Tinchy Stryder and Alexandra Burke, who you might see me collaborate with as we’re all friends.
EUT: What has been your best moment of 2009 so far?
I would have to say, other than the success of T-shirt and Stuck with Each other singles, the highlight definitely was the Beyonce tour, and the best moment on the tour was having Beyonce herself ask to see me.
I thought I was in trouble! But she called me in and she said that "I really want to say to you that I think you’re incredible and it’s a pleasure to have you on tour, I keep seeing your videos on TV and I think they’re amazing and you’re so talent, so keep your head on and you’ll get there. You’re doing a great job diva, it’s been pleasure having you on the tour." She’s living legend already.
Shontelle, who is signed to Universal Records, called me from her home in Barbados for a chat to promote her new single Battle Cry – out on Monday (10 August).
Her most recent song with Akon, Stuck With Each Other, was on the soundtrack to the ultimate chick flick Confessions of A Shopaholic and this tune is similar in as much as it makes you feel empowered.
Make sure you check the interview out below because Shontelle is such a down-to-earth and honest girl. The three best things to come out of our chat were:
(1) There could be a collaboration between Britney Spears and Shontelle as both have been recording their next albums in Sweden. Shontelle says Britney was in the studio for about 20 hours a day, throwing her own contributions into her record. A good sign that spaced-out Britney has gone and the pop princess is back!
(2) Rihanna, Shontelle’s home girl from Barbados, is over Chris Brown. Shontelle said she’d heard Rihanna had been linked with some other men. I hope so. Rihanna deserves the best!
(3) Shontelle is a proper practical joker. One way to keep herself amused on the recent Beyonce tour, where she warmed up for B, Shontelle says she amused herself by breaking into other artists’ dressing rooms, stealing their food, swapping their outfits and filming it all on her Flip cam. I love it as too many people are too serious these days.
