And both sold 17-18 million copies

Now I know china has about 1 billion people but isn't their music market small?

No, they legitimately have a large ringtone market and that's where a lot of these sales come from. The list would be full of Chinese songs if their sales numbers were reported more often;it just so happens that few of their stats are ever put into print media.

And Jay Chou is RIDICULOUSLY popular over there, I don't get how it's significant that you don't know of him.
