Discussion: Why do ATRLers feel the need to come for English skills?

A good percentage of users of this site aren't native English speakers, so why do some feel the need to bully their English skills?

They tend to use personal attacks when they lack the wit to drag someone's fave effectively.

They only do it when the member is trolling / trying hard to "drag". I've never seen any1 come for other member's english skills when they're being nice.

I have mad respect for people who can speak a second(/third/fourth/etc) language fluently enough to only be making grammar mistakes like their/there/they're.

From my experience, it's mainly native speakers who make those type of mistakes.

I only do it sometimes to troll a couple member of whom I know English is their 1st language but other than that when I see a good sis has actual struggles with English I try to correct them in a polite manner and not come for them

It's funny how sometimes they come for my english when I'm spanish? So it's just my second language, but again I have a lot of people against me in this forum, if I was passive this wouldn't happen....

This. English is not my native language yet I've always known when to use their/there/they're, I've only seen native speakers making that mistake, cringeworthy tbh

"Dragging" and thank you. People have to deal that not everyone here is from a English speaking country and most of us are still learning the language so it's pretty normal writing some mistakes or mispelling words.

'Bully' is a very strong term.
Making mistakes is perfectly fine and being corrected only helps you to learn.
However, if someone is communicating with me, not able to construct a simple tense and clearly not showing effort, then it can come across as insulting.

It's so annoying.
I think my English is fine but like a few months ago I said 'whom' instead of 'who' and everyone was just laughing and giving 20 :jonnys: like my IQ is below 80.
