Is Gold the new platinum for record sales?



As you guys may have noticed on the charts nowadays is how difficuilt it is to sell 1,000,000+ without entering the US market or vise-versa and doing loads of promotion, i mean, Lady Gaga has just tipped the Platinum mark with just over 15 million+ single sales....

Here are some examples:

T-Pain- Thr33 Ringz - 689,000 Gold (Released November 11, 2008 )
Akon- Freedom - 600,000 Gold (Released December 2, 2008 )
Jennifer Hudson - Jennifer Hudson - 600,000 Gold (Released September 27, 2008 )
Janet Jackson - Discipline - 500,000 Gold (Released February 22, 2008)


And even The Veronicas, Mario, Sean Kingston, Ludacris & now Ciara.
Lets not even mention Flo Rida....
Just tell me your thoughts on the the question or record sales in general.

Blame it on the mp3's and itunes.......

iTunes, LimeWire, and Piratebay are the main cause.

People just don't buy albums when they have free access of the music from the computer. Some people have themselves saying "Why should I buy it when it's going to be all over youtube next week and then I can just d/l on my ipod the next day."

Ok where did that come from. I just simply stated that WW for female pop stars she is really doing well with her album sales seeing as how most of the girls are struggling to push 3 million WW.

Since when did The Veronicas have at least gold album in US?

i was thinking the same thing a couple of days ago...it seems gold is the new platinum, considering you sell 500,000 in the U.S. alone though not worldwide. Then platinum is the new star-maker, while multi-platinum is barely recognizable anymore, with the likes of beyonce, lil wayne, taylor swift, etc.

BTW just a lil tidbit, has anyone noticed even Beyonce's sales have decreased...she was well along 3 mil with B'day at this time, but only 2.2 mil with IA...SF idk...weird

they havent had a Gold album, but it was in the general discussion the they sold over 1.5million singles and a handful of albums, a rare feat 10 years ago...

You cant say what shes sold all together until her sales cease for IASF. She still selling every week.

Girl she is just over and I mean just over 4 million worldwide. Nowhere near 5 million. And the day she gains the title of QUEEN anything... Im retiring from the music scene.

Yeah, Gold is pretty much the new Platinum at this era.
