With the rise of Netflix, Hulu and other internet sites that let you watch Tv shows and Movies on laptops and portable devices, will most shows move to these companies and leave Television in the dust? How do you see this working out
TV is currently in a downfall. Television ratings now are way lower than Television ratings 10 years ago. All the shows on Network TV sans Big Bang Theory, would have been canceled. NBC is renewing shows that garner 1.5 in 18-49. That is the pits.
Not for a long ass time, if ever. Networks make a hell of a lot more money than companies like Netflix. Advertising will never stop existing. If every show moved to something like Netflix, customers would be paying more than a normal cable bill since the networks wouldn't be profiting from advertising.
If Netflix ever displays enough power that it could overcome cable altogether, networks will cut all ties and stick with television and iTunes. Advertising is where all the profit is.
I don't think television will ever go away. Even without cable you still have broadcast networks which are the Big 4 (NBC, ABC, FOX and CBS) and many other over the air free channels.
I prefer watching television shows on my TV. Streaming is okay but I don't like how constricting it feels. I like commercials because then I can go pee or find my cat. If I pause something it could take me HOURS to get back to it.
