This isn't meant to rouse up any arguments or anything, but I was thinking about this earlier.
People say that Katy peaked in Teenage Dream but I beg to differ.
In 2012, Katy was invited to perform at the Superbowl. That is, she was invited to perform at this VIP invite only company party the night before the Superbowl at a small intimate venue.
She slayed, ofc, but that's not the point.
The point is that this concert was at the tail end of the TD era, after 6 number one hits, and as far as we know, she wasn't even considered for the Superbowl that year. Obviously she was free and willing.
But now, she's the global pop sensation and she was asked by the NFL to headline their flagship event: The Superbowl. And of course, she obliged. Even after her last two singles under-performed and she was supposedly "fading."
If that isn't a perfect example of her rising star power I want to know what is. What do y'all think?
Lower album and single sales. Overall less impressive era. Point blank. TD was her peak and the Superbowl is great and all but really has nothing to do with what her era her peak was!
Some people really dont get what a peak is i see. I mean, Teenage Dream was her peak. That doesnt mean she turned into an irrelevant flop or something
It's a two-headed beast tho. Sure, she slayed the singles game and sold more albums, but this era she had her two biggest hits and grew in every other aspect. Is it wholly accurate to say she truly peaked? A lot of people DO associate an artist after their peak with diminished starpower and stardom.
She was more popular during the TD era, people talked about her songs and videos and her songs were constantly played on the radio, of course she wasn't asked to do the halftime show after her second album

I get what you say. But what i mean, is that peaking is not a bad thing. It just means its just your most successful era. For example, Taylor´s peak was Fearless (until proven otherwise), but her starpower and stardom havent diminished

As far as the Super Bowl goes, the NFL doesn't book ppl for the Super Bowl while artists are at their peak. Madonna wasn't at her peak. Beyonce wasn't at her peak. Bruno Mars wasn't at his peak. The Who were not at their peak. Bruce Springsteen wasn't at his peak...
So I guess what we're really discussing here is the definition of peak.
A lot of people are equating it with pure commercial success.
That's entirely justified and its an accurate way.
However, I feel that overall starpower is a better way of looking at it. I mean Birthday and TIHWD won't matter in a year, they don't even matter now. She's still a huge star and everyone knows her now. In the overall aspect of things it's also a very accurate way of determining an artist's peak.
no matter how delusional the other fanbases are, that's the only truth!
all the eras from their faves combined, are doing worse singles wise than TD, since this happened only twice in history
apart from the super bowl, she got bigger in streaming, radio, touring, net worth etc
