Firefighters on Wednesday afternoon rescued wo window washers who becamesuspended 69 stories above the street while working at the newly completed 1 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan.
The workers, who were harnessed to the scaffolding of the window-washing equipment, were uninjured, according to the authorities.
The tower opened last week, 13 years after a terrorist attack destroyed the twin towers that once stood in its place.
At 1,776 feet in height, it is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.
Ramon Castro, 59, a window washer in the local 32BJ Union, said watching the equipment dangling reminded him of a time he was stuck on the side of a building for five hours.
“I just hope they’re calm,” he said. “It’s a very dangerous job.”
