Kris Allen officially signed to 19/Jive + Album News
It's official. American Idol season 8 champ Kris Allen has been signed, as expected, by 19 Recordings, and his debut album will be licensed to Jive Records for a late fall release, the companies announced today.
Hawk-eyed Idol fans had already noticed that Allen's initial single, the Kara DioGuardi-penned victory anthem "No Boundaries," was released under the 19/Jive banner; "No Boundaries" currently ranks No. 23 on Billboard's Hot 100, while Allen's remake of Kanye West's "Heartless" sits at No. 33.
"As exciting as the last few months have been, I'm really looking forward to what is next," Allen said in a release. "I'm very grateful to be working with Simon Fuller and his team at 19 Entertainment, along with Barry Weiss and Jive Records on my debut album. Everyone's been asking me what it's going to sound like. It will be very similar to what you heard from me on the show -- definitely in the pop/rock genre. I can't wait to get started!"

Pop/Rock of course to capture the Adult Contemporary listeners...this would be a good album. But it wont be because of critics....cause critics like the other one...poor kris.

He should release his album earlier, the end of the year is just too crowded and his album will end up having the same fate as Jordin Sparks' debut.

Told ya all, it's gonna be Pop. Jive could do only well in Pop/ urban pop so they will cram him into that frame. Might get a hit like Crush but would fade away very quickly.
I smell Ryan Tedder and TATOO-ish all over that album.

DEAD @ Clive Davis not signing him to J Records or Arista or RCA..... Clive only signs the best for HIS labels.
Never heard him sing and don't plan too.

I agree exactly. I'm not expecting much from his album, not because I don't think he's talented, but because he's going to be given the most generic pop songs to sing on his debut. There's no way 19 Records is going to give him much freedom on the record. That's been the case for all winners so far.

The winners very rarely have much freedom for the first records. Thankful had its moments, but it's not stuff Kelly is strongly into, which we can tell from My December. Soulful was a huge let down. So much generic r&b, that it frankly killed his career. Free Yourself, I've actually never heard, so I can't judge. Some Hearts is good, but Carnival Ride is definitely more deeper into Carrie than her debut. Taylor Hicks is just so ghastly dull. Jordin Sparks, in my opinion, is the best debut from an Idol winner. Best album from a conestant, no, but best debut from a winner, yes. However, it does have a few ultra generic pop/r&b songs on it, like "Tattoo" and "One Step at a Time". David Cook was very odd. It didn't seem like him. It was too much generic rock. Like overly produced rip-offs of Daughtry. So I'm not expecting a lot from Kris' debut, but I'll definitely support it if it's anything similar to Thankful, Some Hearts, or Jordin Sparks.

Well, Free Yourself and David Cook are one of the best Idol's debuts
Jordin's debut was boring and generic.

It's Jive, everyone. They will make Kris a pop/rock/and a little RnB-ish artist. Jordin and Archie*wave

Watever tcatron, i know u never like Cook but the album is pretty similar to what he had done with his independent records and during the show. The tracks in David Cook are a lot deeper and less generic than Daughtry's ones. One more thing, he wrote & cowrote 11/13 songs; this means that he had control in his hands for the debuts, duh.
Kris's first single will definitely sound like Tattoo and Crush, wait and see.

Well obviously the public loved Tattoo and Crush more than Light On.
Both went top 10. Light On....not even Top 15

I think David Cook's album is fantastic. It's sounds like a 5% Daughtry but the 95% are all Cook's.

If this means anything to you: "Crush" was written/produced by Jess Cates, David Hodges, Emanuel Kiriakou

It's because Tattoo and Crush are catchy can sing-along with. I really don't know why Come Back To Me flopped while it is catchier than Light On.
