So Obama is half-way through his last term and next year candidates will be starting their campaigns for the next United States President. Obama being elected was a monumental moment in US history and a sign of progression for the nation. Do you think the United States will continue to progress and maybe elect a woman or another minority or do you think they will regress and elect a Caucasian male?

I'm thinking that next time might be a Caucasian male again, but a woman is coming soon. Within the next decade, I would expect. I'll be interested to see if Hilary runs and wins in 2016.

Don't underestimate Hilary and the power of the female voter. Not only would she have the female vote, but the gay vote, and the minority vote as well. Sure she probably wouldn't have the support of the typical conservative man, but I think she would flourish in other areas to give her a real shot.

I have a problem with this statement because President Obama is just as much white as he is black(at least genetically) and I hate how for campaign purposes in 2008 he was so hyped as African American and the opposite of white. I'm not saying he's not African American but why is it perceived that way? Why does everything still in 2014 have to further racial groupings. I hate how the media talks about voters and groups them into ethnicities and genders assuming each one group will all vote the same. The even sadder part is that these groups INCLUDING WHITES really don't educate themselves enough on candidates and just vote on party lines. Such a shame.

Sorry for that rant. In relation to the thread I think it will be a Republican Caucasian male seeing how today's election is going. Its an absolute slaughter agains the Democrats right now and I can't see Hillary,who will be incredibly old, getting the youth and minority votes she needs to win. Hopefully the Republican's will put a libertarian-esque candidate up so that gay marriage, marijuana and basic social laws can just all get passed and keep a good economic policy.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. She would get the liberal female vote, which has gone to Democrats since the beginning of full suffrage. The gay voting population is incredibly low and even where it is more concentrated such as New York and California go Democrat anyway so their votes are nullified and the minority turn out will be much lower in 2016 as in the past two elections as the election will not hype race as they have done in the past.

Well this is true, but due to voting patterns the electoral college has been favoring democratic candidates anyway. Like you said the gay vote may not be that significant, but the liberal vote is and the most liberal states (such as CA and NY) also are some of the biggest states in the EC. Also, as conservative as a woman may be, she's still a woman and many of them would be willing to put their political views to the side just to put her in office.

I see the next president being a Republican Caucasian Male, given how this midterm election is turning out. All they need is a strong candidate and they've got it.

Bear in mind, I don't want to see the GOP win, but that's just the bleak future I'm seeing for us right now.
