Merkel tells Cameron "there will be no going back"
Merkel tells Cameron 'no going back' if Britain curbs EU immigration.
Quote:
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned Britain's David Cameron that putting limits on immigration from other European Union nations would be a "point of no return" that could sharply increase the risk of Britain leaving the EU, a magazine said.
The weekly Der Spiegel, citing unnamed sources in Merkel's office and the German foreign ministry, reported on Sunday that Merkel was becoming worried for the first time that a British exit from the EU - dubbed "Brexit" - was a real possibility.
Under growing pressure from the anti-EU UK Independence Party (UKIP) ahead of a May 2015 national election, Cameron's Conservatives have said they would try to cap immigration from the rest of the EU if re-elected.
Both Merkel and the European Commission in Brussels have said this would violate a fundamental EU principle that allows citizens of the bloc to live and work in any member state.
Spiegel cited sources in Berlin saying that if Cameron does insist on limiting the number of immigrants from other EU states, "there will be no going back"...

Good on Cameron, don't let anyone and everyone into your country just because some German tells you to. It's absolutely none of her business.

I hope they do this because the UK has an immigration problem and it's so diluted

Well actually I think Merkel just reminded Cameron of the fundamental rights of EU citizens and the project the UK had signed up to few decades ago.

The UK should drop out of it immediately. Are they really gooing to allow Spanish, French, Germans, Slovakians, in the future maybe Turks to enter the UK freely and take British jobs? Absurd!

You know a lot of employers have come forward and said they would love to employ the native Brits if they weren't so lazy, uneducated and unwilling to work.

Ahem... it's a two way street, Brits can get jobs all over Europe too. And in fact they do.
Plus they get free healthcare all over Europe. It seems a bit silly to throw all of that away just to satisfy a few prejudiced minds.
The world has globalised. If Britain wants to back away and retire then that's fine with me.

Exactly maybe then Vodafone, BP, Tesco and the rest should also just retreat from mainland Europe and make money back home only.

The UK economy is the only one doing well in Europe, so it only makes sense for them to leave a sinking ship

Redrawing borders again is against everything the European Union is supposed to be about.

Yes I would love to know them figures what makes them grow so fast. I would say that it has something to do with the number of people moving there and consumption/construction growing like crazy but well a sinking ship is a sinking ship right? stop the inflow of ppl, growth will follow suit and stop too.

That 'sinking ship' still has an economy bigger than the United States...
And one of the reasons the UK is doing well is because it has the advantage of being part of the EU but not part of the Eurozone.
