Taylor Swift's '1989' Could Be The Last Platinum Album Ever
Quote:
Swift is on pace to sell more than 1 million copies of 1989 in its opening week—a feat no solo artist has achieved since Swift herself did it two years ago with Red.
The shocking part is not that Swift is doing this, but that any artist is doing this. It’s not just that there hasn’t been a single platinum opening week this year. There hasn’t been a single platinum album this year, unless you count the Frozen soundtrack.
All of this leads some industry observers to suspect that 1989 could be the last platinum album ever.
If anybody working in the industry actually said that then they shouldn't be working in the industry anymore. I hope it was just an intern at Forbes trying to stir drama and attract eyeballs, since we know Forbes is a worthless click-bait site these days.
Adele will definitely reach platinum eventually, IDK about first week, probably not. Even artists like Katy Perry will still go platinum. Sure, she hasn't sold enough to be platinum this year, but the album was released in 2013. That's where the majority of its sales came from, anyway. Katy's next album will definitely go platinum, again.
