Kiss bass player and star of reality show Simmons Family Jewels, Gene Simmons, has offered Adam Lambert an invitation to tour with his band--following public commentary that the young singer's voice lacks "rock quality." Following the American Idol finale, Simmons announced on Extra that Lambert can come on tour with Kiss "whenever he'd like."
The invitation seems somewhat ironic considering Simmon's statement regarding Adam's lack of "rock quality." Simmons explained to Rolling Stone magazine, “Respectfully, I don’t think Adam is a rock singer,” Simmons writes. “He sounds much more convincing singing ballads and Broadway shows. His voice doesn’t seem to have a ‘rock quality.’ But, I’m sure he’s going to do just fine.”
Despite these words, Simmons was extremely complimentary on Adam lambert as a vocalist with a strong character with good-looking features. In response to Lambert's American Idol performance with Kiss, Simmons said, "Adam was fantastic." He added, "What a powerful and attractive man he is."
Simmons is no stranger to controversy or surprising public statements. Prior to settling down with long-time partner and current costar Shannon Tweed, Simmons was notorious for frequently boasting about his promiscuity, including during an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
