Upskirt photos do NOT violate women's privacy says US judge
Quote:
A judge has thrown out charges against a man accused of secretly taking photographs up women's skirts saying females 'should have no expectation of privacy in a public place'.
Christopher Cleveland, was arrested in June 2013 by park police in Washington DC afer he appeared to be taking illicit snaps of women seated above him on the steps on the Lincoln memorial.
Court documents indicated that officers found numerous images of women's crotches and buttocks on his camera after his arrest, but DC superior court judge Juliet McKenna dismissed those being used as evidence.
Yes they do. If someone takes a picture of myself when I am not in a crowd without my permission then that should be illegal because people could do whatever they can with my image, and the same applies to this. It is clearly a violation of one's privacy.
The "no expectation to privacy" applies to everyone, not just women... Anyone can have their picture taken in public as long as it isn't for monetary gain. I think people can even take pictures of you through your window as long as they aren't on your property.
The up skirt thing is disgusting though... Something should be changed to allow people who do it to be prosecuted.
Well I think taking photos of someone (especially strangers) is not okay and really weird. Maybe she can't get him for sexually harassing her, but she should be able to do something for him taking a picture of her regardless of the place he took the picture of.
