Is the Gay community overdramatized on the internet?
I feel like my interactions and relationships with other gay men in real life do not live up to the stereotype that all gays are mean, messy, shallow, horrible people.
Basically, I do not think that the gay community is as horrible as it is claimed to be here on ATRL by other gay members. What do you think?
Yeah I actually agree lmao. Almost every gay person I know does not (at all!) reflect the 'gay/twinky/fairy stereotype' that everyone on here claims to be so prevalent
When I started meeting gay people I thought they would all be flamboyant man women. But I was pleasantly surprised to find MANY men who simply just like men. I like the reality of the community

Recently I met a group on gay men who became friends because of a support group for men who married women only to come to terms with their sexuality later in life. They are honestly just a bunch of cool guys, the best people you could ever meet. I'm very happy I got to spend time with them.
I don't know if I'm wrong, but I've noticed that in poor/developing countries it is more common to see (young) gay men defining themselves with more femininity and flamboyancy.
I don't have much experience with 'the gay community' outside of online communities (though I do have gay friends), but ATRL has left a bad taste in my mouth. And no, it's not the 'fem' or 'twink' gays that are revolting to me, but rather some of the backwards ideas that many members of the gay community uphold. I somehow feel like this community is more judgmental and negatively stereotyping than mainstream society now. I know better than to make broad judgements about gay people as a whole by a small sampling of individuals though. However I will say that I do feel somewhat justified in my choice to not further immerse myself in 'gay culture'.
Maybe, but I'm guessing not by a huge margin. The few gay people I know in real life mostly fit the bill in regards to the stereotype and I still think some people here exaggerate when they say they're more masculine in reality than on atrl.
