3 years ago I would say Lady Gaga, but tbh I feel like Katy Perry is nothing but a gimmick right now (and no, this isn't shade at all). She promised a dark album, and I do feel that if Katy produces more material in that direction, she will reach or surpass her own record of 1# (since she failed to do so this era, even tho Roar and DH ruled the charts).
The Dark Horse video, the Birthday video, the TIHWD video... it seems so childish to me, and looking back to some of her older videos... damn.
Edit: oh, and Taylor judging from her latest single.... don't know, let's wait and see.

She made a single tongue-in-cheek comment about a dark album and everyone took it as gospel. She even explained why her music was lighter in tone around the time of release yet everyone still brings it up
