Gaga took part in an interview for a Greek newspaper over the phone on her way to artRAVE in Istanbul. Before the interview, Gaga requested that the interview should be about Cheek to Cheek and not any type of gossip.
Main points of the interview:
She talked about the message of ARTPOP and how she planned artRAVE whilst recovering from her hip injury.
- She mentioned her collaborations with Marina Abramovic, Jeff Koons and Robert Wilson.
- She talked about how excited she is to perform in Greece because ARTPOP has a lot of references to the 12 Olympian Gods, especially Aphrodite, who is central to the work.
- She said that she's been influenced by the planet Venus astrologically since birth, and because of this she connects the album strongly to her body and mind.
- Gaga thinks that something very magical happened back during the time of the Greek Gods, and when she calls Aphrodite to participate in the show, she truly believes there's a moment that happens when the whole audience believes in it, and it's so strong that an aura shields and saves us from the tough present.
- She mentions about how she's only in the very early stages of her career still, and that ARTPOP was the end of the beginning of her career, and now she can transform into a new phase of her life. A lot has happened since The Fame first came out.
- At 28 years old, Gaga says she has discovered the musician that's been inside of her since she was 4 years old. She mentions that she's a classically trained pianist and has been singing classical music since she was 11, and jazz since she was 13.
- The collaboration with Tony has made her stronger and wiser and helped her deal with dark things that have happened in her life, and helped to re-awaken the musician inside of her.
- Again, Gaga mentions that we've only seen a very small side of her and that's she excited about the future and has begun to write new music.
- Gaga says that she is a better singer than beautiful, and a better song composer than beautiful, and would rather be good at singing and writing that be beautiful.
- Tony taught her that being at the top is not always everything.
- After being asked at the end of the interview about her rumored space performance with David Bowie, she says that it's unfair the media brought it up and involved Bowie in it. She admires Bowie a lot, and has always wanted to collaborate with him.
