Madonna's artistry is often overlooked due to the performance aspect of her career being the spectacle that it is. One of the subjects that falls under the artistry umbrella is her vocal ability. While, Madonna isn't a Whitney or Mariah when it comes to vocal range, it is certainly something she's underrated for. Madonna has sung everything, and her voice (I mean her live voice, not studio voice) does a great job in performing the songs she’s chosen to. Madonna’s voice is extremely versatile and suits pop, dance, rock, techno, ambient, jazz.
Some examples of Madonna's vocal power include:
The Jazz version of Deeper & Deeper from the Re-invention tour:
Of course as Many Madonna fans know, lament from the Re-invention tour:
One of my personal favourite songs X-tatic process from an MTV special:
Crazy for you from the Virgin Tour:
When Madonna sits down and only sings or just plays the guitar, her voice is lovely and sometimes surprising.
You must love me from the Sticky and Sweet tour:
This is truly lovely to listen to, Don't tell me live at Letterman:
Madonna also nails the vocals on ray of light here:
Madonna can also dace and sing at the same time, she has the resistance and the control and that ability is something rare, in the business:
Vocal ability is something that you're able to train for and polish to a certain extent but it is first and foremost something you are born with, you're only able to work with the vocal range you have. While Madonna's vocal ability is underrated, as mentioned before she is no Mariah Carey or Whitney. Madonna has however changed the scope of music on several occasions during her unprecedented career. For me, Musical genius over vocal ability any day under any circumstance.
Queen.

Jazz tend to have a complexly syncopated rhythm pattern, you have to have the ability to catch up the rhythm
Songs on breathless were mostly written in chromatic scale which mean the songs have many sharp and flat notes that require the singer to have a good breathing control technique and good breathing support to slide up or down between only 1 semitone.
Watch the video of sooner or later at oscar 1991, she did a ****ing good pianissimo lines and graceful phrasing which caused by a good breathing support
I've always felt that Madonna was a big star due to the age she came in the spotlight and her performance abilities rather than her voice, tbh. It's not like she's a terrible singer but her stardom isn't vocal-oriented.

I absolutely agree. her stardom wasn't vocal related.
