racial prejudice and discrimination.
In most cases, when people say "racism" they are talking about racial prejudice and discrimination on the individual level. Arguing about any exact definitions is just getting away from the point.
The systemic, societal definition of the word "racism" was first advanced by certain sociologists and is much newer (the word was first used around the turn of the century) and by no means universally accepted - it's just an opinion, the "Supreme Court of Words" has not issued any ruling on the subject!
