My brother does this every time I go to show him a new song I have discovered and oh Lorde how I hate it

He does it because he wants to get to the most exciting parts of the song faster he says. He ends up listening to less of half of the track and thinks he's already able to tell if he likes the song or not

So.. Do you do the same?

Yes I usually don't listen on repeat to have a song grow on me. I either like it or I don't. It's rare that I like one after hearing it for a while.

Skim?

Nope. I listen very intently on the first listen if it's outside my tastes (genre, solo or group, decade, etc) but if its something I'm bound to like because it's what I usually listen to I would kinda ready the lyrics first before listening to it.

Yes sometimes, but then I usually go back and listen to the entire thing if the skimmed parts interested me.

Also if it's from an artist I hate, but everyone is talking about it I usually just skim it to say that I've heard it.

It depends if it's a single or an album.

If it's a single, I listen to the full song in its entirety from start to finish. If it's an album, I skim through all the songs straight away.

Not on tha first listen. If it doesn't grab me though within tha first minute though i'll cut it off

No. I'll listen twice all the way through and by then I usually know if I'll listen to it again.

No.First i listen to the whole song and if i have a favourite part i just wait for it to come.

If i dont get interested in like 20 seconds ill skim through it and if i find a part i like ill restart it and play it in full

Yes, all the time, especially with pop music that is supposed to catch your attention quickly.

I know enough about what I like by this point in my life to be able to judge what will appeal to me pretty quickly.

That's not to say that I don't give anything a full chance though, I'll often check music out in full regardless; but my first impression is usually correct.

If it's something I've been anticipating, hell no. I especially love when you get a whole new album with a lyric booklet, and you can read along with the song to make sure you catch every single important word

If it's a new single from someone I'm only mildly interested in though, sure. Like when Ariana or Kesha or someone release a new song, I'll skip ahead to see if the chorus is any good since I'm bound to hear the full thing on the radio/on award shows/against my will anyways.


If it's a song featuring Nicki, I'll usually skip to her verse

I need to listen to a song in full at least once for me to like it or hate it because I might like a random verse or the chorus or the bridge. Each song is different. I might dismiss the song after just one listen, but if it's really good, then some part of it will get stuck in my head against my will. That's what happened to me with Chandelier
