A 33-year-old man is set to undergo a second round of surgery after being stabbed in the heart near Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square, police say.
Drawing on security footage from local businesses, police say it appears the victim was “minding his own business, walking up the street” and looking at his cellphone when he bumped shoulders with two men at the intersection of Yonge and Edward streets at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“It caused both of them to completely lose their tempers…. Wanting to punch him, kick him,” Det. Jason Shankaran alleged Wednesday. “Completely over the top.”
“What we can see in the video is after he fended them off, he let his guard down,” Det. Shankaran said, adding that as the victim was walking away, one of the two men allegedly ran at him and stabbed him in the chest, piercing his heart.
