4th Circuit had ruled that Virginia's marriage ban was unconstitutional and said marriages could start on the 21. Virginia had asked for a stay from the circuit until they take it up the issue with the Supreme Court, but they were denied today. If the Supreme Court doesn't grant the stay, couples can marry next week!

I think they should have a referendum and see what the people of Virginia want. Not really in favor of arbitrary court rulings, let the people decide...

This isn't an arbitrary court ruling though.

It's a case that was brought forth, then appealed, and appealed again. The law is deemed to be against the law. It has nothing to do with personal preference. It's law.

The rights of the few should never be decided by the majority.

The law is deemed to contradict the Constitution, which holds supremacy over any law that is passed (unless it is amended into the constitution).

Good news is that we now have two possible outcomes: They take up the case and it's resolved by June 2015 or they deny hearing the case and it automatically becomes law in the whole circuit
