Did Madonna make leotards a thing in pop?
COADF in 2005/6 saw many incarnations of the leotard.
The first becoming iconic in the much talked about music video for her worldwide smash single, Hung Up .
Then followed up in her second single and other promotional performances for the era.
One incarnation in particular was matching sunglasses with a leotard as well for the European MTV awards.
After this it suddenly became a 'thing' to wear them among the pop girls. And more broadly as a result to take risks with pop imagery.

A leotard is a unisex skin-tight one-piece garment that covers the torso but leaves the legs free. It was made
famous
by the French acrobatic performer Jules Léotard (1838–1870).

Yeah, she revived them. It is a well known fact. Madonna leads and the others follow.

Of course.
Here's a clearer one of her from the same event but you can't tell she's wearing a leotard in it.
