Thanks to the Lady Gaga rule change, you can be nominated for Best New Artist as long as you haven't previously won a Grammy.
However, according to the same rule change, you can't have released a full album and Ed's + was already out at the time... So IDK how that happened.
Well My Everything is her Sophomore album so i don't think she would be nominated for best new artist. I can see her getting a best pop vocal nomination. But a threat to Bey? Most likely not.
