Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media have confirmed that for budgetary and logistical reasons the Burbank-based studio is not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader with Walden.

The Hollywood Reporter says the third installment was in preproduction and set for a spring shoot for a planned May 2010 release. The development puts the participation of the talent attached in doubt, adds the trade. Michael Apted was on board to direct a script by Steven Knight. The key players of the second installment, "Prince Caspian" -- Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell -- were to return for the third film.

Walden has a strong relationship with the C.S. Lewis estate and will shop "Treader" in hopes of finding a new partner. The most likely candidate at this stage is Fox, which markets and distributes Walden fare under the Fox Walden banner.

Any partnership on a "Narnia" movie will require a substantial investment, however. "Caspian," which filmed in the Czech Republic, Mexico and New Zealand, cost $200 million. The first film, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," was shot mostly in New Zealand for $180 million.

IMO, Disney only did it because "Prince Caspian" did not meet thier expectations and were dissapointed by it's run, not because of "budgetary issues".

LMFAO, what a lame excuse! Like dianasguy said, Caspian didn't do as well as Disney was expecting, so they're giving up!

Another reason to love Disney. Down with Narnia. I HATE that series ENTIRELY! I think the reason is, is that the school forced it down our throats. They made us read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and then watch two different versions of the film, and then as a treat, made us go watch Prince Caspian.

I love this series sfm and will hurt someone if they don't make this movie

The first one was GREAT!

The 2nd one sort of lost my interest some of the way, and it was probably quite challenging for Disney's PG standards with some of the film's certain events such as Death, Killing, Violence, war, the heavy themes, emotions, etc. (Some of the stuff shown was likely on a borderline with the company and the MPAA ratings board... ) I can only imagine what goes on in book 3.


I'm sad there's not going to be a third, but I hope someone can pick it up...

I love both movies

The special effects were way better in the 2nd. The storyline was better and more interesting in the 1st.

I honestly think that the 3rd movie will get picked up by another studio...

400-450 million worldwide at the box office alone is not something that a lot of studios will pass on

plus it will be interesting to see it without the Disney name behind it...

Disney seems to tone down a lot of stuff and it will be interesting to see a Narnia film not Disneyfied

Disney is definitely not good with the violence stuff....

For some reason I didn't watch the second movie even though I LOVED the first one.

Hopefully another company will pick it up.

2nd movie >>> 1st movie

I saw the first one in theaters 2 or 3 times at the expensive theaters and maybe 2 times at the cheap theaters...

I only saw the 2nd one once at the expensive theaters and that was it...

the story was better in the first one...I liked the characters a lot more...

in the 2nd one the oldest brother got on my nerves (Edmund is much more interesting) and what was with the love story between the oldest girl and Caspian...Anna and Ben have no chemistry at all...
