Companies do this all the time though.

They don't need all of the employees that Beats have, because they already have Apple employees doing them.
It was good of them to keep the majority of them. But they ain't gonna keep the guys working in the office jobs if Apple already have people in the office.

At least Apple are also making sure they have a job until they can get a new one.
But that's what happens when companies merge.
